8/17/2023 0 Comments Torchlight 2 review 2016![]() While this is a great feature to have, especially when it comes to examining your armor and weapons, the world around you features low-resolution textures. Torchlight II gives you the ability to zoom into your character. It's a shame that such a polished title lacks basic attention to detail. This can be quite jarring to witnesses because you have to go from crisp gameplay to blurry menus often. Any vector-based image is fine, but everything else is incredibly blurry. The gore is also quite explosive! Even though gameplay is locked at 4K 60 FPS, the menus seem like they're still being upscaled from 1080p. Not only does the game run at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second (4K 60 FPS), but it also features pastel-colored environments. Torchlight II is a sight to behold on Xbox One X. Some side quests are also a little difficult to understand at first, but if you keep on exploring a level, you should find the answers you're looking for. There are so many secrets and it'll take you a while to find them all. I don't think I've played an isometric experience like this where each area was this large. The environments are just as vast as they are gorgeous. You'll go from lush plains to bright blue dungeons in the blink of an eye. The game features a lot of level variety. Luckily, it was a free Games with Gold in August, so chances are that you already own it on your Xbox One. If you're an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, you'll probably want to play Torchlight before playing Torchlight II in order to understand the lore. Your quest takes you to various locations, each filled with mysterious characters and loads of side quests. The hero from Torchlight, The Alchemist, comes under the influence of a dark power and it's up to you to stop him. ![]() From my understanding, the story picks up after the events of the first game. The ‘Torchlight’ IP was handed off to Echtra Games, another small studio owned by Perfect World, with none of the original team still involved.ĭuring its Alpha testing phase, however, “Torchlight Frontiers” received feedback that ultimately saw it almost entirely scrapped and.Torchlight II's plot is somewhat convoluted. “Torchlight 3” began life as an Alpha game known as “Torchlight Frontiers.” It was to be the final culmination of the goal the original “Torchlight” developers at Runic Games set for themselves when they founded their own studio: To create a full-blown MMORPG mechanically similar to non-MMO Hack ‘n Slash RPGs like “Diablo.” Alas, over the years, Runic Games lost important members and founders, was purchased by investors, and ultimately was dissolved by its publisher, Perfect World Games. Yes No Looks and Stuff: The game still features more vibrant, cartoon-like visuals compared to say Victor Vran or Diablo. ![]() Torchlight III apparently began as an attempt to turn the series into an MMO but studio shake-ups and buyouts meant losing pretty much all of the original team working on the game until is was eventually finished - removing the MMO elements and giving us a husk of a game - dull and devoid of much of the fun Torchlight II offered. While it was never too deep in its characters or lore, that wasn't too much of a factor as the overall game was a solid addition to the genre. ![]() Back in the day, Torchlight II was a Diablo-like hack 'n slash with its own appeal - more cartoonish in its presentation but still satisfying and quite fun to play, especially with friends. ![]()
